The "25,000 Lives to Save" initiative

25.000 Leben retten
In the EU member states, around 50,000* people die every year as a result of traffic accidents and around 1.9 million* are injured. An action program – the "European Road Safety Charter" – is intended to help halve the number of traffic deaths by the year 2010. The aim of this programme is to encourage road users into more responsible behaviour, to make vehicles safer and to extend the road infrastructure.

All companies and organisations involved, including transport companies, automobile manufacturers, suppliers, automobile clubs and associations, sign up and commit themselves to take specific measures that exceed legal requirements.

Within the scope of the Charter, Bosch is actively committed to promoting wider use of the Electronic Stability Program (ESP®), which can effectively prevent serious accidents by stabilising the vehicle in critical situations and preventing skidding. Studies carried out by well-known vehicle manufacturers show that ESP® can significantly reduce the number of serious accidents. The wider use of ESP® is therefore an important measure in increasing road safety.
